I CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 12 Charles Campbell Dawkins, 25, native of Australia, appeared at ihe Magistrate’s Court to answer ten charges of breaking, entering and theft, the total value of the artic'es stolen amounting to £2(i9 2s 3d. Counsel for the accused agreed to the eases being all taken together. He said that accused intended to plead guilty to all the charges, but wished to lie committed for sentence to Wellington. Accused was of respectable chat* acter, and bad gonti to the war when eighteen, and considerable evidence would be brought to show there was some connection between his war service and the sudden lapse into crime. In regard to the money found in the possession of the accused, the Magistrate decided to leave it to the Supreme Court to allocate, and ordered identified stolen property to he returned to the owners. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court Wellington, for sentence. BROKEN BRIDGE. WANGANUI, Jan 13. ,It is anticipated it will he at least a week or ten days before railway traffic over Whenuakura bridge will be resumed, the Department having practically to renew the structure.
