FAIDERS VIEWS. WELLINGTON, January 11. Economy in the administration of the Government Departments was a subject of discussion at Che meeting, of the executive of the .Farmers’ Union to-day. -The matter arose when a letter was read fjmm the Auckland Branch of the Union, stating that its Executive ‘‘vjiews with astonishment the fact that the Departmental expenditure is still increasing. It therefore suggested tha a strong recommendation be made to the Government with a view to immediate retrenchment. Some of the speakers referred to the need for the Government giving financial assistance t'o many firms that were threatened with a collapse. It was urged that the Government be requested to raise a loan -so that moneys could be advanced. Captain Oolbeck) (Auckland) .. said that from the figures it was evident retrenchment was not in progress.
