A summoned meeting of the U.A.O.D. Lodge is called for Thursday evening. The death took place in the Westland Hospital on Friday night of Mr James McLeod, of Stockton. Deceased was married, 40 years of age, and a recent arrival from Scotland. The “Argus” says last night’s heavy downpour flooded some of the lowlying parts of the town, and some premises were under water about 10 p.m., people finding difficulty in crossing the streets without going knee-deep in the water that had collected too quickly to find an outlet. The howling match for the Reynolds Badges, between Hokitika and Grey Clubs, postponed before the holidays, owing to the rain on two occasions, will take, place at Greymouth on Saturday afternoon next, weather permitting.' At the final performance of the opera “The Country Girl,” to-night at tho Princess Theatre, Miss Helen Gard’ner will take the role of ‘'‘Nan.” The lady lias now fully recovered from the indisposition that prevented her taking part in the opera at Greymouth and her appearance in the role will be welcomed by many admirers of the talented actress, who won tin* appreciation of local theatre goers a year ago, and who was so warmly welcomed last evening when she appeared in two introduced numbers.

Something in the way of a record was established at tho West Coast and Grey Caledonian Sports gatherings held during the holidays. At the two meetings Miss Melba Gibbons of this town, who is but 12 years of age, was successful in annexing no less than 13 trophies, the events being for girls under 18 years. The following are the events won :—Highland Fling, a lirst and second; Sean Truibhois, two Ists; Sword Dance, a tie fer first, and a second; Highland Reel, a Ist and a 2nd; Hornpipe, Ist; Reel O Tulloch, 2nd; Irish Jig, a Ist and a 2nd: best, dress, 2nd. At Greymouth, in the hoys’ section, Master Les Gibbons secured 91 points out of a possible 100 in the Irish Jig, this being the, highest points awarded during the two meetings.
