WESTLAND TROTTING CLUB.
SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL MEETING
The Westland Trotting Club’s annual meeting took place on the Hokitika racecourse yesterday afternoon, and was favored with glorious weather. The track, as a result of the fine weather of the past Week Was very dusty, but this was the only unpleasant feature of the gathering wic passed oft very enjoyably. lhe officials of the Club including the President (Mr F. McGregor) and Secretary (Mr M. Houston) were all at their posts and their duties were capably carried out. The totahsator run by Mr Lynch and staff in their usual capable manner handled the sum of £8326,' as against £10,458 last year. The attendance was good, but hardly as large as last year, but still very satisfactory. The Town Band was present and enlivened the proceedings with » capital musical programme. The trotting was good. There were good fields in most events and in several the finishes Wo re very closely contested. The results were as follow s. DISTRICT HANDICAP. (In saddle, of £7O, H miles).
Dusky Bov (13sec) Prince Mac (12sec) Bush King (4sec) d Also startedGirton Girl (Usee). Prince Mac lost several lengths at the start .but made up his lost ground the first time round. Dusky Boy had the best of the run home and won easily by two lengths, Bush King five lengths away. Time 3.53 1-5. Tote £4/6. KANIERI HANDICAP (In harness, of £9O, 1 mile). Not Out (I2sec) * Cornlwood (User)
Eileywood (Bsec) 6 Also started Dilemma (7sec), Foxglove (13sec.), Lady Audubon (ISsec). There was a good struggle up the straight Not Out holding its own) and winning by a length with Eileywood three lengths away third. Time 2-5. Tote £948. RIMU GOLDFIELDS HANDICAP. (In saddle of £BOI H miles). Renown (lsec) 1 Welcome Reta (8seo) * * Vigorous (7sec) - Also started Emerald Green (14 sec). Welcome Reta led past the stand from Vigorous, but coming into the straight Renown put in a: fast run and won in decisive fashion by three lengths, Vigorous breaking badly when overtaken and allowing Welcome Reta to get up into second place by a bead. Time 3.44 3-5. Tote £748. WEST!,AND TROTTING CLUB HANDICAP. (In harness of £l7O, 2 miles). Appleshaw (19sec) z Silveretta. ClSsees) " Tioganwood (3sec) J Also started:— Pegasus (ssec). Ken Tracey (19seo). Serenity (7see), Whitehnit. (13sec), Wee Winnie (ISsec), Teneriffe (ISsec). Teneriffe took the lead in' the first round, Silveretta and Appleshaw next. Passing the stand the same order applied, Whitebait being fourth. At the back Appleshaw took charge, Teneriffe breaking badly and a good" run home saw Appleshaw win by a length from Silveretta, with Loganwood close up third. Time 4.58 2-5. Tote £1556.
STAFFORD HANDICAP (In saddle of £BO. U miles). Coralwood . (16secs) T.ndy Logan (lOsec) 2 Dusky Boy (I6sec) 3 Also started: Busli King (7sec), Bennie Dillon (15sec), Lady Audubon (16scc). Charlie Lincoln (16sec). Lady Audubon took the lead from Coralwood with Lady Logan and Bennie Dillon next. T.adv Audubon broke leaving Coral wood in charge. A fine finish saw Lady Logan fail to get up by half a. head Dusky Boy several lengths away third. Bush King was called off for starting before his time, and after an enquiry by the Judicial Committee the rider (F. Lynch) who admitted the offence was fined: Co. Time 3.51. Tote £ll3O. DOMINION TROTTERS’ HANDICAP. (In harness of £IOO. 2 miles). Proud Ata (Usee) 1 Dillon S. (15sec) 2 Rapid Wind (19sec) 3 Also started:—Merry Peter (4sec), Miss Rye (lOsec), Emerald Green (18 sec), Forest Ranger (lOsec). Rapid Wind led the field with Dillon; S. and Emerald Green past the stand. The second time past Rapid Wind still led with Proud Ata second. The leader broke at the back and Proud Ata took charge winning by a length from Dillon S., while Rapid Wind was three lengths further back. Time 5.6 3-5. Tote £1258.
AVIATION HANDICAP. (In harness of £BO, U miles). Sandy Bell (llsce) 1 Some Rose (Bsee) 2 Annie’s Dream (3sec) 3 Also stared: —Maryhill (4sec), Bench I toy (lOsec), Teneriffe (llsee), Ken Tracey (Msec), Rainbow (llsees). Sandy Bell took the lead and maintained it throughout. Some Rose made a big effort to get up, but failed by two lengths, Annie’s Dream who came fast in the last quarter, being third, two lengths away. Time 3.10. Tote £1253. FINAL HANDICAP. (In saddle, of £BO. 1 mile). Eileywood (7sec) 1 Prince Mac (Bsee) 2 Rooseveldt (4seo) 3 Also started:—Lady Logan Bsec, Prince Mac led the field till the hill was passed when Eileywood took charge and won by two lengths. Rooseveldt three lengths away third. Time 2.26 2-5. Tote £957.
