AUSTRALASIAN OHAMPIONSHJPS

The Australasian Athletic Championship Meeting opened' oh the Adelaide Oval in favourable Weather. Counterattractions interfered' slightly with the attendance. A big feature wsa the presence of the South African team in addition to the Australasian champions. Competition was spirited between the finest athletes ever seen in Adelaide. Ayres Costerlaak, the South African, did not compete, having injured his leg while training. This caused disappointment. The 100 Navels Championship was won at the pistol shot, Carr getting a break and winning by four yards in 9 9-10 sec, Hutton won the Quarter-mile strongly by four yards. Reid broke the javelin-throw-ing record, as Hon nor did the Broad Jump: Newman made a splendid finish in the One Mile, defeating Grandemange' iii the worsted, Webber was a fair third. Harhison (New South Wales) gave a clever exhibition Of pole vaulting, and won at 10ft Gin. Parker won all the way in the Three Miles Walk in good style. Rouse put the shot 38ft 2iU, securing nil easy win, The 120 Yards Hurdles was run straight out, Edmunds narrowly defeating Edwards and Munro in 15 3-10-see—a record.

Third heat: kinsman (South Africa) 1. Won by a yard and a half.. Time, 10 l-ssec. Final heat: Carr (N.S.W.) 1, Kinsman (South Africa) 2, Gale (Victoria) 3. Carr got on the move first and won easily by four yards, a foot between second and third. Time, 9 9-10 sec.
