A SHOOTING AFFRAY. DUNEDIN, Dee. 31 An encounter With firearms took place at Ranfurly on Wednesday. Two farmers, George Dovciuiey and William Griffin Dowling occupy farms, divided only h.v a road and unpleasantness developed. Uis alleged Devenuey armed with a shot gun. came over to see Dowling and as the hitter came down the road towards him opened lire. Donling ran away and Devenuey is alleged to have put another cartridge in the gun and again fired, missing Dowling and his soil who was nearby. Cosu table Bandy witnessed ti.e shooting and fired a shot Irom liis revolve! over Devennoy’s head as a camion, hut the latter is stated to have ignored the warning and fired a third shot, which narrowly missed. Constable Bandy thereupon fired low at Devenuey and the bullet struck toe ground at his foot, splashing dirt and sand in his face. Devenuey then dropptd his gun and ran across the paddock and was later arrested and brought to Dunedin.
