SECOND DAV RESULTS.
.SUCCESSFUL MEETING CONCLUDED. I Alter the sere lid' postponement of the meeting. the \\ island. 1 1;Wi 11 g Club was favored wiih a perfect day for the second day's racing. The weather was absnlncly perfect, a blight warm sunshine tempered with a light cool bieezo from the south-west. The attendance though not as large as era Tuesday was of very satisfactory proportions, there being a good many visitors by the trains from north and south. Speculation was again brisk and Mr Lynch : and his staff handled the sum of £12,435) for the day, as against £11,722 lor the second day last year, making a toital with Tuesday’s turnover of £11,923 | a grand total of £24,362 for the meeting las against £24,441 for last year am: ■ £19,1 *l2 for 1919. This was highly satisfactory, as was the happy prompt manner in which the investments wero handled throughout both days.
The racing yesterday, as on the first day was very interesting. There were good fields. Mid the various events were Will contested. there being some line finishes, giving every credit to the work of the handicapper. Mr .1. Noble, in bringing the fields together. A special feature was distinct success achieved by the Starter. Mr 11. Rutland. who got his fields away in great style on both days. Then' was nol a had start on any occasion, and on most occasions tile fields went away in almost pertect alignment. As on the first day the hurdle race »as a special attraction and the field cleared the obstacles without mistake, the race Ix'ing a fine one.
The race for the Westland Cup. over the Westland mile was of great interest. and ttie win of the. top weight was a popular one. After the jockeys had weighed out there was a happy event u the saddling paddock, when the presentation of the handsome silver cup presented for the race by the West hurt Licensed Victuallers Association took place.
The popular president of the Club (Mr W. E. "Williams! congratulated file owner, trainer and jockey of Rattle Scene on their success. For a number of years the Club had presented a. cup with the race and lie hoped that this would ho continued every year. TTo regretted that the public had been disappointed at the postponements that had to In' made this season, hut he as sured them that the Club was deeply gratified fer the very substantial support given. The officers of the Club were present
in full force and with the popular President'(Mr W.’ E. Williams) and capable secretary (Mr D. % n Evans) with their active assistants giving attention to their duties the 'meeting passed olf very smoothly and proved, in spite of the. double postponement', one of the most enjoyable ev6r held on this most popular course. TTio course appointments were very complete, and though the heavy rain luid somewhat deadened the running, the turf was in capital condition, even after the racing was over. Punctuality was observed on both days and the last race on each occasion was concluded right on tile time-table arranged. The Town Band was again present playing a popular programme on the lawn, while the. booths and refreshment rooms were well filled throughout tlic afternoon. The Stipendiary Steward (Mr C- H. G rdon) had an easy time, only having occasion to make one e.nc|iiiry throughout the meeting. The results were as' follows :
STAFFORD HANDICAP. (Of £IOO. 6 furlorigs). Rosevear f8.12> 7 Mythology (9.1) Redsome (7.12) 3 | Also started:-Tantalus (9.1), Irish Elegance (8.13). War Unit (7.3). From an even start. Rosevear took the load and making the running kept his load. Tn the straight he came away handsomely and won by three'lengths. Mythology heating Redsome for second place bv a length. Time 1.23 4-5. Tote £1443. COUNTY HANDICAP. (Of £l2O. 7 furlongs). (For apprentice riders only). Embezzler (7.10) 1 Stoopholin (7.9) 2 Clicquot (8.3) 8 Also started Lady Middleton (8.9), Grand Ducliy (7.7), 'Gold Coast (7.1), Timera (7.1). From an even start Stecpholm shot across from the outside and took tlic lead with. Clicquot next, and (Irani Duchy. At the Lack Embezzler ran into third place and a great finish up the straight saw Embezzler got lip and n in by half a length, with Cliquot a neck away 'third. At the instigation of the Stipendiary ■Steward an enquiry was held into tbo riding of the junkey of Embezzler who humped Clicquot in the straight, near tlic finish, by crossing too soon. The Stewards took into consideration the fact that Embezzler was an erratic horse, but strongly cautioned the rider (Porrival) for his riding, especially as In- was riding against apprentices, and warned him in the future to licymoro carefill. Time 1.28 4-5. Tote CIM2. TASMAN HANDICAP HURDLES (Of £l5O. If miles). Rlack Night (9.(5) 1 Comment (11.3) - War Tax (10.1) Also started: Mallincourt (10.1), Headlong (9.13). Lyrno (9.13). From on even start Comment and Mallincourt showed out in fiout. Passing tbo stand Mallincoiiri lead from Headland, with Lynx' next. At the hack straight. Comment took the lead, with Rlack Night coming fast. Tn the straight the latter took charge and won easily by three lengths. War Tax three lengths from Comment.
