Mr Wickham Stead in a speech in Toronto, seid: “It has been a realisation by the British Government that Canada would have placed itself with America iii the event of a war between Japan and United States, that has been largely responsible for the scrapping of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance.” EUROPE’S PROBLEMS. LONDON. Dec. 28. It is expected that the meeting of the British and French business men ami industrialists will lead to agreement on certain broad principles, which will lie submitted to the Supreme Council as a basis for the establishment of a European financial corporation composed of ieading nations, for economy and the industrial reconstruction of Europe.
In furtherance of the scheme, the Council will arrange for the holding of j a European economic conterence, to which Germany and Russia may he invited and also the l nited States and Japan. Such corporation, if necessary, will issue currency and lay down conditions upon which it would he willing to finance industries and lecotithe railways of Europe, linking up in one system, and supply stock.
