Yesterday tlx* overland express tiaiiie was considerably delayed hotli morning and evening by the effects ol slips resulting from the recent heavy rains, when several inches fell in one night. At Jacksons there was a washout on the railway line, which yesterday morning prevented the train passing until six hours later than usual, tlu* passengers not getting to (Kirn till well into I lie afternoon after four o’clock. On Wo Otira Gorge another accident, the presence of debris on the road, Iroin a slip, held up the coaches, so that the tunnel had to he used to firing the passengers to and fro. Yesterday mottling a special train wilh trotting horses left Christchurch in connection with the local meeting, hut the horse owners had it stopped at, Springfield, as it was line see n the horses could not cross the Gorge before to-dnv at the earliest. The ! express reached Grey last night about \ ».35 o’clock.
