“Despite the temporary disorganisation ol the hatter market,” says the .'■l- , Zealand Herald, “the outlook for the dairying industry cannot he eniistdered gloomy w l eu it is remembered that fanners may immediately increase their production to a very material extent by culling indifferent cows and replacing them with tested animals. Willi the best pastures in the world, New Zealand has the worst cows of any impoitant dairying country. When it. is stated that the annual production of buuoi-fat pr cow in the Dominion is only ISOlb, whereas the average test in renmai'k was ffiialh, some years ago, if is apparent that dairy farmers have it within their power to cancel, and more than cancel, the recent drop in the lamdon market by merely improving their herds. It is not too much to say that tlie productivity of New Zealand herds could be increased by from 50 to 100 l>er cent without increasing the number of cows.” WOLFE’S SCHNAPPS.
