S.M. this morning to four charges of false pretences and one of theft, involving a sunt of ,£7O obtained by valueless cheques, issued at Rotorua. Tekuiti, Hamilton, and stealing from Taranaki Education Board. He was sentenced to two years’ reformative treatment, on each charge to be concurrent. , AUCKLAND COAL MINES. AUCKLAND Doc. 23. The mines of the Taupiri Mines, Ltd., and the Pukemiro coal mine, which were idle yesterday afternoon, resumed to-day, an ample supply of trucks being available. JOCKEY’S DEATH. AUCKLAND, Dec. 23. An inquest was held to-day re the death of an apprentice jockey, William Moylan, aged 15, who was tiding .-eatliermoon ill the Takapnna Races on November 2(itb, and who died in hospital two days later as the result of internal injuries, sustained when the horse fell The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, stating that no blame was attachable to anyone. One jockey in his evidence said that the deceased appeared to try to obtain a position on the outside of Estlionia. / He thought Heathermoon must have struck its front feet on the heels of Ksthonia. RATANA’S CAMP. WANGANUr, Dec. 23. For weeks past there has been a steady influx of natives from all parts of the Dominion to Ratana’s camp where a religious revival, on a big scale, will be held on Christmas Dtv. Yesterday about 3000 were encamjied and each train brings more. The 'camp largely consists of tents, in regular rows, with cook houses for the different sections, while a complete water service and electrical lighting have been installed. The discipline of camp is strict, V while good sanitation is a feature. In connection with this, the District Health Officer is visiting the camp daily. During the past year Katana has received 71,000 letters from people seeking advice and help, the communications being from all parts of tlie world. In many instances, money, occasionally large amounts, lias been forwarded, but -g io every case, it has been returned, as W Ratana refuses a reward of any kind. WATER STDERS FEDERATION.
