The contest for the Mayoralty of Lower Mutt resulted in W. T. Strand. | councillor, defeating E. P. Rishwortli, ‘ Mayor, both of whom resigned their seats to contest the election, by •’’3" vole's. The point of difference between the candidates was that the Mayor supported the erection of gasworks, which the ratepayers by poll sanctioned, and Councillor Strand and tbe Ratepayers’ Association opposed.
