The Council resumed at 4.25 p.m. Amendments proposed by GovernorGeneral’s message to the Customs Bill and Death Duties Bill were agreed to. The Council agreed to amendments to the Finance Bill, No 2, transmitted from the House of Representatives. The Statutes Repeal and Expiring .Laws Continuance Bill was -put through all stages and passed, THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Technical Amendments to the Customs Bill were introduced by Governor’s message and agreed to. An amendment of the Death Duties Bill was also introduced. The amendment fixed the date on which the duty under retrospective clauses becomes payable at the month after the donor of the gift had been notified of the reassessment of the duty. The amount of the gift which must be notified, was increased from £IOO to £3OO. The amendments were agreed to. The Expiring Laws Continuance Act Amendment Bill was introduced by the Premier who explained it was not possible to dispose of the subjects dealt with in the Bill finally before the House rose. Therefore he plroposed merely to extend the operation of the existing Act until 28th. February next. The Bill passed'all stages. The following local Bills were passed—AYhakatnne Harbour Bill (Alt Hockley) ; Pfcton Recreation Reserve Amendment Bill (Afr McCollum). Inch-Clutlin Road, River and Drainage Amendment Bill (Atr Rdio); Palmerston North Borough loans Consolidated Bill (Air Nash); Napier Harbour Board and Napier High School Empowering .Amendment Rill (Air Brown), Napier Harbour Board Enablin'.; Bill (Air Brown), Auckland Electric Power Board Bill (Air .T. R. Dickson) ; Wellington City F.mpowering Bill (Mr Wright).. On receipt of the notice that these had been passed by the Legislative Council, t.lic House resumed and rose at 12.37 a.in till the 11th.
