ft n.MNCTON S+OUK MARKET TAIPROVEATENT IN SHEEP. (By Telrtgrauh.—Special lo Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs Matson and Co. report as loilows regarding their stock sale yesterday:— Store Sheep—A small yarding mostly of wethers, which were hard to sell at last week’s prices. One line of extra good forward wethers sold at 12ij 4d. Rest 2-tooth wethers from 7s to Ss 9d, others from 4s ll.d to Os. ■Shorn ewes and lambs up to 7s all counted; fi and 8 tooth ewes in the wool 9s; wethers in wool 10s to 12s; Small hoggets in wool from 5s to (is fid. 'The general tone e.f the market was depressed. Store cuttle A smallet yarding, hut tho quality generally speaking showed an improvement on recent sales. Not iikiiiv buyers wore present, but prices showed very little differ* nee iront last week’s quotations. t'eef- -A very large gathering and although to-day was a. double market, there seemed to lie quite enough for tin? butchers requirements. There was 11 good proportion of excellent quality cattle yarded, but the market es- I pecinll.v for best sorts, again showed a further drop. Prime steers £lO to Cl 3 15s fid. extra to £ls 15s, medium Cfi 155., ordinary £4 to £fi: Prime cows £ to ,£fi 15s; others £3 to £1 10s. Mutton—A medium yarding considering there is no sale pext week, scarcely sufficient for butcher’s requirements. The market consequently showed a good advance all round. The biggest proportion of entry comprised ewes so any good wethers sold particularly well. Prime wethers 20s fid to 23s fid. extra to 25s fid, medium 17s to i2os; Lighter 14s 9d to 16. x 6d; Rest ewes to 18s fid, .prime 1.2 s fid to 17s fid, lighter and inferior 9h fid to 12s. A very large yarding of lambs and freezing buyers wore operating for the first time this season. Although nothing like last week, prices were considerably better than tho previous two weeks’ sales, freezing buyers operating keenly for best qualiy, medium weight lambs at about 5.Vd per lb over all. Butchers were also operating keenly to secure extra supplies for Xmas trade. No sale next week.
