SPECIAL TO GUARDIAN. PUBLIC HOLIDAYS BILL. WELLINGTON, December 21. The Public Holidays Bill has been amended by tin- Labour Bills Committee. When Christmas Day falls on a Sunday the following provisions are to apply : (1) Where provision is made for the granting of a holiday, or the observance of certain hour's of labour, or tbe payment of certain rates of wages, on Sundays, such provisions shall apply without modification on tbe Sunday being Christmas Day. (2) Where provision is made for the grinding of a holiday, nr the observance of certain hours of labour, or the payment of certain rates of wages on Christmas Day, such prvision shall apply on the next succeeding Monday as if it were Christmas Day. (3) Where provision is made tor the granting of a holiday or the observance of certain hours of labour, or the payment of certain rates of wages on Boxing Day, such provisions shall apply on the next succeeding Tuesday as if it were Boxing Day.
THE MEAT POOL. WELLINGTON. Dec 20. Tlie Prime Alinistcr put the details of tbe Meat Pool Scheme before the llnu-c to-night.- They include the lollowing: A Board 'if Control is to be establisbed in New Zealand, consisting of representatives of the various interests involved, to direct and control all exports sales and shipment of frozen meat of the 1921-22 season output, and for such period'thereafter as shall be determined. Tbe Board is to take control of all meat slaughtered, for export., as soon as placed in the freezing chambers in good condiinn and graded as required by tbe Board, which will decide as to any class or any classes ot such meat which it will not accept for export. The Board will assess the net value of moat delivered into store at the works. Tbe Government, through the Board to advance to the owner (?) per cent, of such of net value, with recourse against the person to whom such advances are made, and in addition to this advance such sums as will cover all chat ■ges here and overseas, taking as security the store warrants or bills of lading. By products are to remain the uncontrolled property of tlie owner of stock. The Associated Board, with tbe ATanager to be appointed in London, and the actual cost of management and administration, including salaries of members of both Board?. are to tie paid out of the business. All meat placed ill each class in the schedule shall be pooled in such parcels as the Board may determine, and the net proceeds shall he divided pro rata among the owners, whoso meat is included, the freezing companies to make a consolidated charge to lie agreed upon to cover all working costs up to placing t fie meat f'.o.ti ocean steamer. The Legislative Council passed the Mortgage and Deposits Extension Rill after further amending the provision for repayment of deposits, by- instalment. Th House passed the Public Holidays’ Amendment Rill in the evening. This Bill provides for the observance, of public holidays on Boxing Day- and tbe Tuesday following. The Minister of Internal Affairs states the.Bill did not in voice the closing of hotels or cinemas on Alondav.
