It is understood opposition to the coalition lias hardened, particularly as it was felt that an acceptance of the national olive branches was possible only by a considerable swallowing of humble pie. The leaders of the Nationals and Progressives in the past year havo exchanged considerable bitter recriminations, which are now effectively blocking agreement. The Assembly has adjourned till Tuesday. A CLOSE VOTE. SYDNEY, December 16. Mr darlings majority over Ex—senator Grant was one vote. 74 to 73. SYDNEY, Dec. 16. Sir John Fuller is still in negotiating with the Progressives, hut no finality was reached. A joint meeting of the legislative assembly and council elected Mr 11. C. M. Gurling to fill the vacancy in tlie Senate caused by Mr Brntten’s election for Parramatta.
