THE GENISES OF BOLSHEVISM.
(Contributed hy “X”) (Continued.)
Thus Lenin and Trotsky canic on the ■scene and there is no question that, at that time they wore the accredited agents of Germany. It was openly slated in the Austrian Reichruth that the Bolshevik proclamation was actually printed in Germany. The immediate effect was apparent. As soon as Kerensky was deposed and the Russian armies thoroughly demoralised, the soldiers deserting the frontier in thousands, in quest of plunder promised hy the Bolshevik proclamation, Germany, greatly to the dismay of the Bolsheviks forced on Russia the Brest-Litovsl; Treaty, which gave: enormous territorial acquisitions to Germany, and was, to all intents and purposes an ultimatum hy tho conquerors to a. conquered country. Germany, as might have been expected, only used the Bolsheviks for her own ends and if Germany had won the war, not only would the Brest-Litovitsk Treaty have been enforced but the Bolsheviks would have received as short shift as the Spiritualists did. Germany has no time for Bolshevism. It lias, in German eyes, its uses, but is not for local consumption. This was very clearly laid down at the time. There was, if the reader remembers sonic perturbation as to the ultimate effect on Germany of unleashing the forces of anarchy and destruction in Russia, and some slight opposition was shown, as it was feared these forces might ultimately give trouble in the “Fatherland”- a fear which subsequent events proved was not entirely unfounded. But this faint protest was completely over-ruled hy the Inniker party. wdio stated that it was vitally essential to put Russia out of action to enable Germisy to concentrate on a great offensive on, the western front; also that Bolshevism could never take root in an intelligent and well disciplined country life Germany. Sr, tbo most deadly poison gas which the fiendish ingenuity of Germany ever devised was let loose in Russia and was effective in (l) destroying Russia as a fighting force; (2) dfstroying the democratic ■revolution wheb the Russians themselves had brougit about, and introducing greater horror: than those which attended the French •evolution ; (3) <le.stni.ving Russia altogither economically, and leading to staivntimi of milli ns of people in a country of unbounded weatlli and resources, and which had been one of the greatest Red producing countries ill the world, as a, destructive force therefore Rolsbtvi.sin had from the German viywpoiit justified its use. but its (lancer was recognised fully and we know the strcniuns measures taken to prevent its spreai on Germany itself.
But Germany lid, and still has. further use for Bolhevism. Lot us not delude ourselves or one moment into the belief that Grmnny has yet lost hope of douiinafig the world. By every means possile she is keeping her fighting strength ffecti.vo. No one out side Germany kirns how far her police force is military, aid her military forces camouflaged as piice. She hoodwinked the world for 40 ears while preparing for Ihe Great Wn, and she will again hoodwink the mil ms of the world into false security if nssible. The Bolshevist and anareliia communistic propaganda she is seeitlv and effectively manirmlatina in ther parts of the world "ill in itse' provide apparently reasonable excuse or maintaining armed forces for (he sppressinn of internal disorders. Her present policy willbe to regain industrial supremacy b provoking industrial trouble aml nn rest everywhere else Her policy hi been from the moment she found d’ent on the battlefield inevitable to bide her time” until the poison whii destroyed Russia, can have a chance o work destruction elsewhere. German knows that, with tho more enlightei-1 and intelligent nations this will tn» time—probably a long time. Rut onkhv this means now now cap the dreamif the German nn tion of world ennqnit. domination and revenge lie attained T do not. wish loimite nate of the Germans, their ethic or their methods, but there is neeessr to distrust them profoundly, and to.vatch them carefully.
