The death is reported this morning of Mrs Elizabeth Haiso, of Beach Street, which occurred at an early hour this morning. The deceased has been ailing for some time, and her death was not unexpected. She leaves one daughter and several grand children to
mourn her loss. She was 54 years of age, and a native of Ireland. She had been a resident of the town from childhood.

We regret to record the death of an old resident of Maori Creek district, in the person of Mrs Garland, which took place at the residence of her daughter, Mrs Hackell, of Livingstone Street, Hokitika, this morning. The deceased had been ailing for some time past. She was a native of Tasmania, and 74 years of age. She leaves a husband and family of one son and three daughters to mourn their loss. Mrs Hackell of Hokitika, Mrs Coombe of Greymouth, ami I). Galvin of Marton, are daughters.
The report of the Internal Affairs Department shows that during the year ended March 31st last the number of days on which the totalisator was used was 288. The 288 days were used as follows .—Racing Clubs 214 days, hunt dubs 15. trotting clubs 59. The sum of £10,121,212 was passed through the totalisator as against £8,792,570 for the previous year. The investors received hack In dividends £8,834.203. The Government m-eived from the machine £481,640 and the clubs received the balance, £805,308.

“A considerable amount of mislabelling of perfectly sound food products was noted during the year,” stated tho Dominion Analyst in his report for tho year ended March 31st last. “Custard 'powders” frequently had the word ‘cream’ or ‘egg’ prominently on the label, though they contained no trace of either. Vinegars deriving only onefifth of their acidity from malt were labelled notwithstanding ‘malt vinegar.’ Boric acid was frequently detected in butter, which did not have the required notification on the label. In one case a condensed milk was branded in large letters ‘evaporated cream.’ The pork lju a pound tin of pork and beans did not usually amount to more than onofthhd of an ounce. Other instances might he given of similar labelling deliberately intended to mislead the consumers.”
“Several complaints in respect to |k>sters and other advertising matter have been received,” states the annual report of the Department of Internal Affairs, where it refers to the film censorship.
