Hell gave notice of the Public Trustee Amendment Bill. Two ! Bills from the House, the Death Duties and Land Agents were read a hrst time. The Crimes Amendment dealing with the silent witness in abortionist eases was introduced by Sir F. D. Bell • and read a first time. A committee was set up to consider the Forests Bill, and was given power to sit with a similar committee ifrom the Hoitso. TJie Customs Bill was put through all stages and passed. Maintenance Orders (facilities for enforcement) Bill, Education Amendment, Native Trustee Amendment and Forests Bill were read n second time pro forma and referred to committees. The Council rose at 3 p.m. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Tn the House the Hospital and Chnritnble Institutions Bill was introduced by Governor’s message and referrto the Public Health Committee. The following Bills were introduced bv Hon. Duwnie Stewart: 'Public Contracts and Local Bodies Contractors ■Amendment; Grey Collection Exchange Bill At the evening sitting, the Public Holidays Amendment Bill regulating Xmas and New Year Holidays was read a second time and referred to the Lalrour Bills Committee. ilr Massey moved the second reading of the Aid to Public Works and Tjund Settlement Bill, which empowered Government to raise five millions for public works etc. After a lengthy debate the Bi'l was put through all stages and passed. The Premier indicated that as there was no hope of the House finishing before Xmas, he proposed to adjourn for a fortnight. Tho House rose at 12.30 a.m.
