From another source we gather that the Public Works Department at Wellington is forwarding the necessary plant to outfit the workshops Cabinet has voted a preliminary amount for expenditure, and the works will ho carried forward steadily. A comprehensive building scheme is to bo carried out including n proper sanitary system. The Hon. Minister will personally inspect the works early in the Now Year. A writer in the “Lyttelton Times of Saturday last says I There is a general impression that Greymouth will boom when Arthur’s Pass tunnel is opened. This opinion is not held by some business people in tho. Grey district. Ono retail draper said he was convinced that, the tunnel would do Greymouth more barm than good “Perhaps 1 am speaking in a selfish may,” he said, “for it may possibly benefit other sections, the tunnel will do local retailers a lot of barm.
