MONDAY, DEC. sth.

The Committee met at 7.30 p.m. Present: Messrs W. H. Shannon, (Chairman), Stevenson, Aitken, King, (Ijruce, Richards and Preston (Hon Sec). , . , A n was made* tor 'tnu aosoxico of Mr .1. Lloyd. The minutes were uonfirined and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.

From Rnnanga Combined Picnic Coinmittee asking fur use ot Cass Square on Jan 2Sth. Received; and by request of Borough Council, request granted. From Canterbury Education Hoard stating the foreman had been instructed to renew flooring during ’Xmas holidnvs; stating repairs asked for South Spit, school were authorised, or referred to foreman; attention would be given the caretakers house repairs as requested. Received. The Chairman reported that Messrs Higncll (2) had visited tlie school and had agreed to carry out a number of the requirements of the Committee at Hokitika and South Spit schools. The Chairman man’s action was approved. From Miss Dixon (Teacher, South Spit) reporting average attendance Inr month was 15 and roll number 16; stating repairs were being effected and thanking Committee for letter of commendation. -Received.

' From Rector (Mr J. Irvine) reporting average attendance of 362.2 out of roll number of 388; stating the. train timetable cut had reduced the roll by one. Tn regard to attendance. 25 scholars had not missed a half-day and about 50 had missed not more than liv,. half days, in the primary school and also a number in the secondary school would he entitled to attendance prizes. Tf the train time-table were not altered after the holidays it would make a substantial difference to the attendance: that Mr McLean had given a benefit entertainment for the school prize fund. Received. Tlie Chairman referred in strong terms to the reported remarks of the Railway Traffic Manager in a recent interview at Ross that no consideration was to be given the'school children as far as the train service was con<*rncd. Me moved that the attention of the Minister of Education he drawn to tlio remarks of Mr Cameron. Seconded bj Mr Aitken''and carried.

Tlio Secretary reported the receipts of the picture entertainment amounted to £3l 13s Od. expenses £ll 7s ffd. leaving a net credit of £23 5s Od. Received and adopted as highly satisfactory. The Chairman reported special prizes had been donated by Mr W. E.i Williams. Mrs Robinson, Mrs Haekoll, Mr Urine (7) Mr King, the Chairman, and Mr Aitken. It was resolved that tlie selection of prizes he left, to thi' Chairman. Seerolarv and Rector. It was resolved that the disrihufion of prizes take place at. the school on Wednesday, Dec. 31 st at 1.30 p.m. The Inspector’s report was received, and that the Rector and Staff be congratulated on the excellent, results attained was agreed to on the voices. Tim Visiting Committee (Messrs King and Stevenson) reported having visited hie school, only minor requirements being mentioned. Received and adopted. Messrs Richards and Preston were appointed visitors. Accounts tabulated "ere passed for payment.
