Friday, deceaibeh 2nd. The Council met at 7.53 p.m. Prevent—Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), Coulson, Wood, King and l.loyd, SPECIAL MIOKTING. From Auditor-Oeiiefnl forwarding annual balance sheet for year ended 31st, March 1921, duly eertilied to as correct.--Deceived; Sir Godson moved that the balance sheet be signed as settled. Mr Coulson expressed his pleasure at the balance sheet being letertu'd without any exception, which re fleeted credit on the Town Clerk and Council. He also moved that the Town Clerk he authorised to' take the usual steps to have the sheet printed. Seconded by Mr Wo,>il and carried. ORDINARY MEETING.

From Hokitika Beautifying Association conveying resolution asking the Council to consider the advisability of cutting off the tbps of pickets of Cass Square fence, level with the top rail.' Received; Air Wood stated the Reseiivels Committee had visited the Square and were not in favour of the proposal. It was resolved that in the opinion of the Council the proposed alteration would not l,e an improvement and that the Association he advfejed accordingly.

(a) Re Alotor Lorry Traffic- To recommend that the motor lorry owners he invited tu meet and confer wfth the Finance Committee of the Council with a view uf coming to an amicable agreement regarding the amount to hi' paid by the owners of motor lorries towards the upkeep of roads within the Borough used by the said traffic. (hi To recommend that a letter he forwarded to Mr Ernest Thorn expressing the Council’s appreciation of the work done gratuitously hv him in clearing Sale Street of rushes etc. Received and adopted; Afr Coulson and the Mayor eulogising the good work of Afr Thorn.

OVERSEER’S REPORT

1 beg to submit the following report of works .during the past mouth. During the month Ac have been employed most of the time cleaning up footpaths and iliains. Gibson's Quay footpaths and water tables have been completed Ire,m Railway crossing to Livingstone Street. Hampden Street has been cleared of all growth for the whole distance to Race course Road, and at present we are engaged cleaning the drains and footpaths. A limit 20 chains of each are finished. I hope In have the whole Street cleaned up in a week from the present time. The upper poriions of Davie and Rnllcstim streets have been partly cleared be-’ tween Stafford Street and the line (if Bark Street.

During the month, we renewed a section of the Itealey Street drain at Hampden Street crossing, also a section of about 20 fret of Sale Street, drain on Gibson’s Quay that had collapsed. We erected a fence on the bench at Dark Street nearly chains in length to keep the sand oil’ Kevell SD'fet. On tlie 22nd. of November C. Gibbons and myself went to Kanieri Forks. Tlie pipe line of the Bridge bad lifted clausing .a bad leak at one of the enlhirsf AVe put it. hack in position and stayed it firmly. Several other leaks were located and attended to. One water connection was made to a house in Dark Street, also several approaches and one concrete and pipe crossing and usual street cleaning and maintenance has been attended ti
