THE IRISH PROBLEM.
•••STll-ILIAN AND N.Z. CABI.E ASSOCIATION. IRISH COMMENT. LONDON, November 30. The ’‘lrish Bulletin” says: Sir J. Craig’s attitude belongs to the days of feudalism. This leader of a minority numbering barely a fifth of the Irish people assumes a right to dictate the Irish people’s destiny and takes into his own hands the decision of peace or war, rejects as utterly impossible the suggestion which the British Government has made for the sake of Ireland’.s and of the British Empire’s peace. Both gir J. Craig and Mr Lloyd George don’t mean Ulster when they say Ulster. They mean only the four predominant unionist counties ill the north eastern corner of the Ulster province. What right have thes four counties—this eighth part of a national unit- to claim Ireland’s national rights. This less than half a province can’t claim provincial rights. Mr Lloyd George would not permit any four English countries imilar to vote themselves out of England”
LLOYD GEORGE’S NEW SCHEME LONDON, November 30.
Since .Sir Jas Craig’s statement in the Ulster Parliament, the London newspapers have been busy speculating and forecasting the nature of Mr l.lovd George’s new proposals. The rigid secrecy is unbroken, -the only certainty being that the paper forecasts are wide of the mark. It is not safe to regard the situation as an improved one ( though some more peaceful Sinn Feiners in Dublin are said to profess to see a ray of hope in Sir Jas Craig’s assurance that Ulster is willing to freely consider ally fresh proposal. LIMIT REACHED. LONDON, December 1. De Valera, speaking at Cork, said: ‘‘Terrorism will not conquer Ireland. We have gone as far as we c-an go. consistent with our principle. We cannot and will not, go further.”
