IBY TKI.KOKAI’H D ARGAVTLT.E, November 29. The Governor and Lady Jellieoe accompanied by Sir F. Bell. Mr Coates and a number of other distinguished guests, paid their first official visit to Daresville and district this evening They were met hv the Mayor (11. L. TTornblow). and accorded a civic welcome. and presented with an address on behalf <>f the town and The party received an enthusiastic welcome from a large number of -people from all over the district the Maoris giving a hnka. Tn the evening a conversazione was held, at which the Governor and party were in attendance To-morrow (Wednesday) lie reviews the children, after which, as guests ol the Scenic Club, the party proceeds to Wliat-oro to the official opening of tlie famous Trounson Kauri National Park. On Thursday the party leave for the South to view Ttuawai and Huarau. During their stay in Dargavillc. the Governor and Lady Jellieoe are th guests of Mr Alfred F.. Harding. Nov. 30.

Ilisi Kxeelenev the Governor-Gene-ral continued his public functions in Dargavillc to-dav. In the morning lie addressed the children of the district, and left later for Kauri Park, where over *2OOO people hud assembled to see the formal handing over of the park to the Government us a. national park. The deeds of tho park, comprising nearly 1000 acres of beautiful kauri forest, were handed over to tho Governor-Gen-eral by Mr James Trounson, the donor. Sir Francis Hell, received the gift ~n behalf of the Government.

'file proceedings were very enthusiastic and in the course of stirring addresses the Governor-General, sir Francis Bell, Hons. Mitchelsou, Fowlds and A. E. Harding referred to the niiinificiont gift of the donor to the people of the Dominion.

The forest is recognised as one of the wonders of the Dominion and with the improved faeiliteis for reaching it will lie a source of great, attraction for tourists.

Luncheon was served to the guests wli|, had assembled from all parts of the Dominion under a huge kauri tree over 10 feet in circumference.

~ At the request of the Government the park will be known as ‘'Trounson Kauri Park.” ill honour of the donor, who is one of the oldest .and most respected residents of (lie North Auckland district. The Governor-General and party return to Auckland to-morrow.
