AMUSEMENTS. POLLARD’S PICTURES.

“THE SCOFFER” TO-NIGHT. To-night iit tho Princess Theatre, Pollards are presenting a fin® programme consisting of seven . reels ol “The Scoffer” a- Snub Pollard Comedy and the latest l’athe Gazette. Tt attraction to-night is Allan Drvan s widely heralded production “The Scolfor.” The caste selected to portray the various interesting characters in the thrillling story is unusually brilliant. It includes such well-known names as Mary Thurman, of .Mack Sonnott fame, .James Kirkwood and Philo McCullough. The story unfolded in “The Sootier” is extraordinary in many ways, since it concerns a God-fearing physician whose love turns to vicious hate through the cruelty of Fate. What happens to this man as at result of his change of belief and how he is made to realise that his first attitude is, after all, the only tenable one goes to make up a narrative which is gripping and full of suspense. Excellent opportunity for “pointing a moral” is afforded by this photoplay, yet the total effect is one nf thoughtful enjoyment and a feeling of satisaction at the visualisation of the well adorned tale. It is said that this is Allan Divan's masterpiece, and on this ground it is expected to cause excitement-. When a man’s sublime faitli in Providence is shaken by a, cruel fate and he becomes hitter in his disbelief, it, is certain lie is “heading on” for c\rnordinary experiences, because no man ever fought Fate with nit sfartlviig results. The leading character in “The Scoffer” provides a startling instance of a mail’s turning away from, and filially returning to the faith which luut home him up previously. Pollard’s symphony orchestra will play the incidental music for this filin' production.
