This will cut out all sales by stationers and other tradespeople, who receive a small commission on sales, but who usually keep stamps a‘s a convenience to clients. The instructions, evidently, are the result of the Government’s economy policy. ,

There lias boon much talk kitelv, says a Wellington correspondent, .of amalgamation ot' Government depifrtiftents in pursuance of the economy campaign. Inquiries show that though several such proposals have been considered none have yet tiocn definitely decided upon. One suggested amalgamation, which 7s almost certain to bo brought about, concerns the Government Insurance Department—Life, Firo and Accident. Amalgamation in this direction, it is thought, would mean a considerable saving in branch offices and agencies. If such amalgamation were completed it is probable that Mr Richardson, Commis sinner of the Insurance Department, would be at the head.
