On Mnmiav Pollards are presenting a fine programme at the Princess Theatre. tlie star feature is an Allen Dwait production, entitled “The Scoffer” the companion picture to “I he Miracle Man.” Merit pervades the whole atmosphere of Alien Dwan’s production of “The Scoffer.” which may he well listed as one of the best photodramas of the season. Seldom has such a story been told so masterfully and rarely have incidents held an audience so enthralled. An intensive drama, it opens the eyes to some of life’s foibles, yet in no sense is it guilty of moralisin'.: . While the plavf ill itself is unusual in its power to command undivided attention, artistic acting on the part of the caste is an outstanding feature worthy of nraise. Mary Thurman. James Kirkwood and Noah Beery share first honours. Each of 1 hose well-known artists drawing character studies which or,, memorable. At times the dramatic acting reaches great heights and inspires to applause through admiration of consummate artistry. The production which ranks with the best contributions to the modeni screen. 'I he story which is cleverly evolved in “The Scoffer” concerns the misfortunes of Or 'Wavne .who through the villainous plotting of his bosom friend Dr Rmliards. is forced to s'-rve a five-year prison term for a crime, committed by Hi,-hards. All his life, an intensely religious man. he emerges from a prison a scoffer, rankling at injustice. Wayne goes to a sparsely settled si cti ui of the country, hut he stumbles on hi* former wife with his deadly enemy. Hiebards. and is idimgcj into non l roubles. However, he meets the girl who through love, exerts an influence over him which acts ns his salvation. In til,, end the scoffer is convinced that ho is wrong and renews his faith in humanity to tind happiness at last fu llie devotion of a true woman.
