] ARBITRATION AWARD. ] i- | DI'NEDIN. Nov. 21. The Arbitration Court lilcd five awards covering the Olago-Soiit lilatld coal mines. It is the first award made since the trouble arose. The principle i .moved in the Court memorandum is no doubt of Dominion significance. The i memorandum states the Court has endeavoured to adhere to the spirit, ol the general conditions of tin* national . agreement in 1920, as far as applicable. District rates of pay are fixed as nearly as possible on the 1914 rates, plus oO per cent, for piece workers and til) per l cent, to time workers. Increases are ] (provided for. A national agreement I appears to he based on food prices, cur- ! rent ,oii January 1920. when Hie increase over prices of July 1911 was i 07.70. We have provided for altera- ' ions in rates after April 1.922 based oil corresponding statistics. If in March ! 1922 tin' increase over 1914 food prices is 47.70 as against. 07.70 the followin'' ■( calculations will have lo he made. Tn- - creases at. present being paid over < standard rate are represented by 50.1*0 v for those of present piece work laics • and 00-100 tie, time rates. Thus the t present piecework rate of 7s 0d is made • nn os standard and 2s 6d increase. Th . t latter will be replaced by (lie amount, t l.e a '-in" if to rales of 17.70 to 07.70 or - 'in ;t.'M and the new rate will be 7s 0 : ;d. Rv a similar calculation tlie new time e rate is Ids. Tn order to avoid eonfttsn ion ill-' Court has reserved powers to lake orders each six months.
