AN EXTRAORDINARY - CASK. IIA.MII.TON, November 22. An extraordinary case opened in the police Court, when William Williams was charged on four informations with sending an indecent document through the post. Evidence was given In- John William Porter, that lie received an abusive anonymous letter through the post, accusing him of being the father of u child of Alary O'Callinane. Mrs Rorler also received a letter making
tile, same accusation, and litter one signed by Mary O'Callinane enclosing an alleged receipt for the child's maintenance from Porter. Inquiries made could not find any woman named O'l allillane. It is alleged that she is a fictitious person, and that the letters were sent, by Williams in an attempt to wreck Porter’s home. Williams admitted writing the first letter, but not the others. Handwriting experts considered all the letters written by one person. The hearing of the case was adjourned for tt fortnight.
DUAL INQUEST. WHANG A REI. Nov. 22. At an inquest concerning the dual tragedy at Kara on Saturday, the evidence disclosed that the two brothers lived together. The elder one was found dead on the floor of til house with a bullet in bis head. The younger was found dead in the bush later, also witll a bullet- wound in tin* In-ad. A verdict was returned in the ease of Edward Thomas Smith that death was caused by a wound, hut there was insufficient evidence to show by whom it was inflicted. The verdict in the case Ilf John Martin Smith was that death was due to wounds sell-inflicted BANK MANAGER’S DEATH. GISBORNE, November 22. A (tody seen floating in Waimata River by a boy this morning, has been identified as that of Samuel Jarvis McCormick. manager of the Bank ol Australasia. Tile body has several gashes in the throat presumably cut with a sharp instrument. McCormick retired as usual last night and has been in the habit of rising early for gardening and was not missed till breakfast. He bad been suffering recently from influenza.
