HOKITIKA BOWLING CLUB.

OPENING OF. THE SEASON. j

The Hokitika Bowling Club was favored with a beautiful day on .Saturday for the opening ot the season, the day being sunny and warm. There was ail excellent attendance at the green including a large number of ladi.*<. The green proved in be in excellent order, though somewhat heavy as the result, of the rain earlier in the ween The President (Mr R. S. Galbraith) in a happv speech addressed those ns*em. bled and declared tbe season open, expressing the hope that the season would lie a successful and enjoyable one and commending members to; the exec lc it condition of the green. At Dm call o the President Mesdaincs Galbraith and Hickson rolled up the first bowls amidst applause. PRESENTATIONS. During the tea interval, tlie President said ho had the pleasure to present. the Duncan Cup to hold for tin* year to the winner of tbe singles’ mam pionsbip (Mr .1. N. Nalder) He desired to congratulate Mr Nalder on Ins success in winning the trophy, an bonor that momliers always competed lor on all occasions to secure and he was ■ dad on this occasion that the winner so well deserved his success. He had pleasure in making (he presentation. Mr Galbraith then proceeded to state that he had another duty to carry out. As they all knew. Mr Nalder who had proved to ho one of their Lest and most enthusiastic momliers was under orders to transfer to another district. They had recognised that Mr Nalder was a star of the (’lull and had so proved himself on many occasions, and he had hoped that lie would he a fixed star, tint now he had found out that he was a comet and was moving away next week, lie desired to express oil behalf of tlie Club the keen appreciation of members of the valuable services rendered by Mi Nalder doling bis term of over ten years as Secretary. Mr G. A. Ho „ i xtondod his personal good wishes to Mr and Mrs Xalder and family in their new home Mr Galbraith turn asked Mr Xalder to aeeept a small presentation from the members of the Club in appreciation of his valued comradeship, so that he could purchase some memento to remind him in his new home of his connection with tlie Hokitika Bowling ('lub. and he wished him. Mrs Xalder and family, good health and haopiness in the future (loud applause, followed liv the singing of For He’s a. .Tolly flood Follow). Mr Xalder made a feeling reply. He expressed the keen pleasure lie felt in having been successful in winning the singles championship and the right to hold the Human Cop, which he had tried bard to win for the last ten years, also paying a tribute to the donor (the hue Mr W in. Domain whose keen interest bad added so milch to the sneiv's of the eliili in the lirst years of ils life. Mr Xalder then thanked tlie President, the Mayor and Mr Wilson lor their very kind remarks, and expressed his deep regret at having to sever his connection with the. Club and its members who had at all times proved themselves good sports and true friends, lie thanked them deeply for their gilt and he assured them that ho would purchase a memento that he would always prize, and which would serve to ever remind him of the many (pleasant days lie had spent on the green with the inemlier's. He thanked them again for their good wishes to his good lady, bis family and himself, which lie sincerely reciprocated. THE PIiAY. The game for the day was the annual one of teams selected by the President and Vi'e President. In the absence of Mr Hickson, absent on holiday. Mr \Y. Wilson, a former President took his place.
