A fair number nf.-mcdals won in the late war arc being offered to pawnbrokers in Auckland, but the latter will not advance money upon them. Enquiries made showed that a certain class of men were offering their medals for sale. .Most of these, in the opinion of the pawnbrokers, are not in distress. The pawnbrokers staled that the monetary value (if a medal was not more than 2s, and so the sale of one would not greatly assist a mail who was really in distress. The medals being offered are childly Yictnry medals, bub attempts have been made to raise money on a few Military Medals, and an odd D.C.M. A certain number of war medals for campaigns of the past have always found their way into the pawnshops, and must nl the local dealers have at least one nr two ill stock. They are practically unsaleable, however, and in most eases have been pawned among „ variety of oilier articles. Local pawnbrokers seem to be agreed that War medals at present are of no value to anyone lint the possessors, though in a hundred years' time they may be nl value from tin* collector's point ol vie". "Buving war .medals I min a man is like giving him two or (luce shillings, one pawnbroker stated.
