In (ouneetion with death of a 6J year old child at Hastings, at the inquest nil Friday the police handed in a statement by Morgan Davies, farmer, residing ill Napier. In it lie said that he had had a eonsideralde amount ol liquor before leaving Napier and wished to make a voluntary statement of what lie remrmhereil while driving to Hustings. A charge of manslaughter was laid, and accused was remanded to appear at Napier tin Monday. Bail was allowed, self in £SOO and two sureties of ,£2-50 each. Davies is a married man with four children, and in good circumstances. The affair has caused great interest in the district.
