In the Commons, Air C'lynes moved a motion approving of the M asliington Conference and expressing the hope that a supreme effort will be made in secure a substantial reduction of the crushing burden of armaments. Any tendency to narrow tlq. grouping of countries, however friendly, would not make for a lasting |K>aee. Therefore lie appealed for universal fillili-ilee atld world friendship, Mr Chamberlain emphasised how vital it was that the Conference should reach a successful issue and expressed profound regret that the Prime Minister was unable to attend at present, but lie was hopeful Dial be would go filter. The British Government’s policy was to seek ponce and ensure if. Mr Chamberlain trusted the /Conference would bring relief to the overburdened world.
