[RV TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. \ CHRISTCHURCH, Oet 17. A feature of the day’s play was the performance of the Miramar professional, E. S. Douglas, who did the first round in 70 and the second in 76, thus gaining a lead of 10 oil his nearest opponents. The bogey for the course is 80 and his- 70 is the best official ‘score made since the new lay out of the course. He showed an excellent knowledge of the ground, and made very few mistakes. His driving, approaching, and putting, were very fiine efforts. Ho did ten holes in one less than bogey, while not is one instance did ho exceed bogey. He took 36 out and 34 home in the morning, and took 38 each way in the afternoon.
