FIRE AT KUMARA.
On Sunday morning about .'I.BO o’clock, an alarm of lire was given at Kuniara, when it was found that the fruit and tobacco shop, owned and occupied by Miss Grace Ringer in Seddon Street, was on tire. Memliers of the Lire Brigade were soon on the spot, hut it was found that the fire had a great hold anil there was mi hope of saving the premises. The office of M,l. A. Murdoch (solicitor) adjoining also caught lire, hut the firemen winking well soon had the (lames here under control. The rear of Mr Spiers premises were threatened, hut the elforts of the Brigade were successful in containing the fire to the two buildings. At 4.80 n.m. the fire was well under control. Mr Murdoch’s office was badly damaged by fire and water, but a valuable collection of many hundreds of law books, etc., which happened to he on the shelves of the wall furthest from the fire, escaped damage. Miss Burger is a heavy loser. Nothing was stwed, and general regret is expressed nf her unfortunatt loss. The origin of the fire is a mystery.
