The kind Agents Act, which was read a first time to-day, makes stricter provision for the licensing and control of land agents, who comprise any person whose business it is to act in the dispoal or purcliao of any land or interest therein, irrespective of whetherlie is engaged in any other business, an auctioneer being exempted, and makes the holding of a license under the Act compulsory. Where two or more persons carry on business in partnership, only one need hold n license. Licenses held under the Land Agents Act 1910 on December 31 of this year are extended to March 31st 1923, while the duration of licenses issued under the Act is for the same term. Every license issued after the commencement of the Act- is renewable annually. A licensee must provide a fidelity bond of toGll. Privision is made for the hearing of objections to applicants for a license in the Magistrate’s Court. The grounds must affect the applicants character of financial standing. A land agent is required to furnish a full account to his principals, to keep clients’ moneys in a separate trust account, and ail agent is liable to a fine of C2OO or live years’ imprisonment who fraudulently converts to his own use moneys received or renders false accounts. Further clauses set out ollVmes which may lead to the eamcllari n of a license. Any person without it license purporting to he. a land agent is liable to si, fine of £SO.
