A record bouse assembled for the euchre tournament and dance held at St .Mary’s Club rooms last evening. Some thirty tables competed and a very

A rather severe break occurred at the Totara Sawmill on -Monday last. It appears something went wrong with the governor and the engine "raced going at a terrific rate. Both the pullev on tlie intermediate shaft and the tiv-wheel were badly broken, pieces o the metal living in all directions and some going through the roof of the building. The engine driver. Arthur Simpson, while getting control ot tlie engine was struck on the leg by a piece, of metal and both bones were fractured near the ankle. This was the only accident. but some ot the other men working about the null ->au ~ narrow escape. Tie- sufferer was conveved to Hokitika ill Betl.ig’s motor car and had the limb attended to Is Dr Baird at the Westland Hospital.
The ninth annual report of the Mata-. ,-oa, Dairy Factory Coy. is to be considered bv the shareholders at the annual meeting on Monday evening next. The Directors have pleasure in reportine that tim factory bad a very success, fid season during the past year. The cheese manufactured totalled 144,U.21bs and was -cvf a uniform first grade quality sold at the highest market price. A dividend of 6 ]k>i< cent, oti capital account is recommended. The retiring directors. Messrs Northcroft, P. Burrell. and Xisson are eligible for re-elec-tion. The total receipts for the year, including £282 carried forward were £8,084. The payments for butter fat for the season were £7014. Freight were £7014. Freight cost £.lB, more the amount of the salaries for the factory, £351. A dividend totalling £llß was paid out, and the balance carried forward is £440 after writing off £72 for depreciation. The assets of the company arc £3493 of which £1236 are cash in bank and hand.
