WKLLINGTON, Oct. 6. The Department of Agriculture has received tho following cablegram, dated October Ist, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London. M HAT. The market is very irregular and much weaker owing to, firstly, the largo quantity of frozen meat in store and discharging, and, secondly to the low prices accepted for Argentine meat. Another reason given is that holders are forced to realise by tinhanks. Quotations are:--\x. mutton, light-weight, ■ftd-bd: heavy-weight ,V,d ; (Title sale owing to heavy Argentine wethers being available at Ijd; Argentine wetlu-rs, light (j',d- New Zealand ewes ojd; l’atagoiiian ewes, lid; New Zealand land., li-flit-weight 10d-10'.d; New Zealand heavy-weight officially quoted at .bid. but little demand, and a lower price is being accepted: I’at agoliiaii tegs arc selling down to (>a<l. N.Z. beet is in very little demand, but sales have been made at: I’rinio ox, hinds o:i<l. lures .1.1,1: official quotations are somewhat higher. Argentine chilled beef is plentiful supply at Hinds 7Jd, fori* ml. miTTHII. The demand continues slow and the position generally is unstable, buyers with-lmlding in anticipation of a further fall. Last, week’s sales of Government cnlvwial butter were below exstoro price, and from information to hand it appears that, sales were confined chicily to stocks purchased at exstore prices ruling in .lime and duly last. New Zealand is realising from 20Ss to 22:1s per ewt (Is 10',(1 to 2s per |b). The Manila market is firmer and fair business was done this week at a highei price. “.!" grade Aiignst-Oetnber and, Septeinlier-.Noveiuher shipment* “old early this week’ at £ll7 10s to £33 pelton. later £3O to £3O 10s per ton. Jiily-Septotnher and A ugiisf-Octoher shipments are now (|iioted at £M!) per ton by buyers. New Zealand has a hardening tendency in sympathy with Manila v and in the absence of offers from shippers. Small business has been done in high-points, and Soptein-her-Xoveinher shipment* sold at £3B 10s per ton. To-day’s value, spot, is £l2, Oehnl.er-1 h-ceinhcr shipments, and .1 anna rv-March shipment £3B 10s; fair £33 spot, £3O Ids for shipment. "WOOL. The Iliad ford market is firm for now business for prompt delivery, but iuture delivery is still quiet.
