The State Department says the Government are gratified that the Brit is' Dominions will he represented at t 'Washington Conference. It states the American Government has trie, throughout the negotiations to mak. it possible for British Dominions to he represented. United States could not directly suggest to the British Govorffmeiit that the Dominions be represented, because' the question was no official concern of this eountry. hut the American Government did suggest that Brittain’s delegation should number five to with a view to : low ing sufficient room for Dominion representation. The State Department denies that America shimmed the door against Australian or other Pacific Dominions representation, as Mr Hughes is said to have alleged in the Australian Parliament.
