Tuatapere Outlaw.
POLICE GIVING CHASE. INVERCARGILL, (let. 4. Described a,s being over six loot in height, proportionately built, and a deadly shot, a man named Cossgrove, carrying a service firearm, has caused considerable unertsiness among residents of Tuatapere (about 00 miles north- 1 west of Invercargill) for some months past by his strangi* and allegedly unlawful buhaviour. The first outbreak attributed t<l him occurred at the hegilining of the winter, when several outback houses were broken into during the absence of their owners, and since then there have been recurring incidents of a similar nature. A posse of police was sent after Cossgrovo. hut he took to the dense hush, where he is quite at home, and all attempts at capture have failed, this in spite of the fact that he makes occasional excursions to Tuatapere and Orepnki, where he is well-known. Tliore lie mixes with old friends, who, although they knew he is outlawed, hold him in such fear that hey will not lay hands on Tiim, even when their forces are strong. There are also good grounds for suspicion tliiTt he is being fed and assisted by friends, who keep him posted regard ing the movements of the police. Iha officers of the law. therefore have a task that, is by no means easy, and il it is certainly far from without risk, bh) urgent has'the position become that five constables find a sergeant are now in chase of the outlaw, their headquarters being Tuatapere.
