FARMERS’ POWER'. . WASHINGTON, Oct. 4. The United States Administration is greatly concerned at the growing power of the farmer political group, which now controls the U.S.A. Congress. The Farmers’ Party have over 20 Senators, and about 100 members of tlie United States House of Representatives. The Administration leaders are unable to direct the legislation in the Senate, and now they are unable to pass their Revenue Bill, and thus the House cannot proceed. It is the first time in American history that a powerful legislative group has controlled Congress. Only four measures have been passed during the last six months. These are: The Billion Dollar Farm Export Credit Bill, the Emergency Tariff Bill, the Bill for the Prevention of Grain Exchanges from dealing in “futures,” and the Control of the Packing Industry Bill. Five other measures are to be forced through that will all benefit the farmers.
AKBUCKLE. CASE. SAX FRANCISCO, October 1. Reports were current that the State would drop the manslaughter c-JU'ge against Arbuckle. They have nowbeen contradicted by the District Attorney’s announcement that the ‘information against the comedian has been completed and filed in the Superior Court where Arbuckle will he arraigned to-morrow. His trial will take nlnce some time in November. NEW YORK, Oct. 3. Ilrs Fred Letts of Chicago defeated Miss Cecil Leitch (English) Canadian woman champion, in the second round of the American women’s national golf championship.
