A feature of the ease was the defence alleging that the prosecution was due to a vendetta. It was argued that Sinn Feiners were charging three of their rivals with the murder hoping they would suiter the death sentence and so lie quits. The Judge Advocate said: •‘lt is not necessary for the purpose of a vendetta that an actual person should suffer. It would he sufficient if a member of an opposing elan or party suffered. A dramatic feature was the Sinn Fein evidence that Bradley was carrying a lantern in his light hand, which the defence proved was the hand that ha 1 been maimed in the war. The three accused were acquitted. RAILWAY STRIKE IN IRELAND.. LONDON, Sept. 2S. The strike on the Great Southern and Western Railway in Ireland has extended to branch lines which are ceasing. Motor services and special steamers have started to connect Dublin witli Cork.
