DT TELEGRAM! —PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. SEDDON shield. MARLBOROUGH v. WEST COAST. BLENHEIM, Sept. 24. Summer weather conditions prevailed to-day for the final Seddon Shield game of the season. West Const were the challengers, and they were defeated by Marlborough by If) points t- 9. The play was of an interesting i-har-iu-ter, though the success of the home team was quite justified. In the first spell Marlborough scored U points. Tries were gained by J. O'Brien. Byrne, and R. O’Brien, the last one being converted, by Fitzgerald. The visitors opened their scoring ae_ count early in the second spell when Deere registered an unconverted try. ,J. O’Brien then scored again for Marlborough. Fitzgerald converting the try. Shortly afterwards Gunn crossed the Coast line. Imt the try was not converted. West (’east made several rallies in the latter part of the game, ,’louatt and Steel each scoring tries, neither of which was converted. The visiting bucks wore prevented from operating freely, owing to vigoTniis play by the home forwards, who were tie- superior in pack and the loose a*arlboroiigh thus retain the Shield for the season.
