Strii.wbri.lK**, Knuinoor for Illy I .and Drainage Department in Westland. lately ..iigaged at H i,r! , ' ;l " received tlie very sad news to-day of the death of his young wife which occurred very unexpoctdly, late on Saturday u igiit at Auckland, .Mr Strawbridge had no idea there was any anxiety as to his wife’s condition, until his arrival here to-day when he received a telegraphic message from the medical adviser stating an operation was imperative. The message was despatched from Auckland onrly on Saturday, and it is surmised that Mrs Strawbridge did not have strength enough in pull through the ordeal. The sudden news was therefore a great shock to Mr Strawbridge, who was married enlv in March last, and expected his wife here shortly, intending to reside in Hokitika. Mr Strawbridge is proceeding at once to Auckland, travelling overland to-morrow. During his short st-iv in the district Mr Strawbridge has made many friends, and every sympathy will he felt for him in so sad a bereavement.
