CRICKET.
AUSTRALIAN AM) N.Z. CARI.B ASSOCIATION CBICK F.T t'ONTROVKHSY. 'Received This Day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 24.
An anonymous County cricketer lias contributed an article to tbe “Observer” adversely eritcising Armstrongs declaration that the average professional never can he gut to play as he should in a three days match, and gives instances of professionals rapid scoring in tests. “But if we are sensible,” be says “wo will profit by what Armstrong said as it linn long been beyond doubt that our professionals, as a body, do noT play freely enough. It is unfortunate our professionals should be twitted by tlie loader of a team, whoso members receive* besides all expenses, a sum amounting to hundreds of pounds for playing cricket. If future tests in England are played to a finish as many cricketers hope, there is no logical reason why Australian pla\ \ ers should not change in tbe professionals' dressing room. Australians pride themselves so often in public on their frankness and calling of a spade, * spade, that it seems odd that Australians who are paid for playing cricket should be willing to pose ns ninntour». M McLaren injured. LONDON, Sept, 24. McLaren met with a street accident in London in attempting to hoard an omnibus and was dragged soventy yards, tbe muscles of the, left shouldw being badly torn. He lias water in both knees. Nevertheless be spoke at a charity luncheon in Ashmoad. He said English cricketers might have done n great deal better than they bad done this year. Hei did not consider English cricket was anything like as bad as it appeared. He was certain our youngsters were as good as' ever.
