Kelly, who had been identified as the unknown man seen at tlie Grey Lynn train terminus on the Saturday night. Witness gave an account of his movements on Saturday afternoon and evening, establishing an alibi saying be was not at a train terminus or near the scene of murder. His clothes had been examined by the police, and no extraordinary marks were found thereon. LABOR MEETING. CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. IG Thu conference of the New Zenland Drivers Federation, which concluded on Thursday evening, considered Air .McCullough’s resignation and endorsed his action, and also recommended the affiliated unions to renominate Mr McCullough for the position. The Conference further decided that the method of appointing the AAorkers Representative and Deputy Workers’ Representatives on the Court was unsatisfactory, in that the men nominated for the position wore very citen aware of the fact that- they had teen nominated, and that-one union did not know what tlie other union was do-,ng. All the Unions registered under the Act are to he asked, to urge an amendment in tlie direction indicated. Other amendments to the Act desired are- that a provision for a Dominion agreement he made into an award of the Court, without the formality of each separate union going before, the Council of conciliation, and also that Sir John Findlay’s Bill should he enacted which provides for a Dominion Clerk of Awards to give effect to national agreements, and also for the formation of National Unions.
NEW BOLITIC'AL PARTY. DUNEDIN, Sept. 10. Mr C. E. Stntham, M.P., Leader ot the recently formed National Progress and Moderate Labour Party, delivered an address to-night. The Mayor, Mr Douglas, presided. There was a huge attendance. Mr Stntham dealt with the aims aiul objects of the new party, whose- motto, he said, was “the common good of all.” Ho considered that the Upper House, consisting of about 10 members at a salary of £BOO per year each was ir wanton extravagance. The Upper H House should be turnon into a revising chamber, consisting ot 15 men who should he nominated by ,1,0 Government, and approved !>?
