Ongaroto Murder.
TE K A 111' FOUND GUILTY. Hamilton, sept. iff. At the Ongnroto murder tri«d, the jury after a retirement of three hours, returned a verdict of guilty. The prisoner was sentenced to death. Mr Hainpsou. for the prisoner, asked bis Honor to grant leave to a line under Section I 111, against his Honor's direction to the jury in the -croud trial when he commented upon the fact that the prisoner had not been . ailed upon to give evidence Air Hampson Ill'Ll that, as this was published in the papers, it had caused a prejudicial eflect upon the minds of the public, of whom the jury consisted. His Honour said that he did not see that what happened at the second trial had anything to do with the present trial but lie would give Mr Hampson every assistance if lie desired to go to the Court of Appeal. The prisoner, who bore on stolidly throughout the trial, showed no -igns of emotion until the death sentence was nniMonm-ed. when his eves ' led with tears, and he showed signs of a partial collapse.
