The Minister of Health lias been engaged with the Board of Health maternity mortality sub-committee, General McGavin, Dr Elliott (British Medical Association), and the Director and Assistant■ Director of Health, in taking evidence. When the committee has finished hearing evidence the report will he subtlli tted 'to the Board of Health. The report is understood to contain 16 recommendations. CHARGES OF HOOKMAKING. Charges of having Parried on the business of bookmaking were preferred in the Magistrate's Court against Thomas l.mig. labourer, of Belfast, and Frederick Dncre, a carpenter, of Linwood.
