OTIRA TUNNEL
NEAR ING COMPLETION. CHRISTCHURCH, August 30. It is expected Flint the last block in the lining of the Arthur’s Pass tunnel will lx: placed in position three weeks hence and the tunnel brought nearer the stage when if will lie opened for regular railway traffic. As to when the long-desired through railway connexion between East and West Coasts will become an actual accomplished fact is as yet uncertain. Much work remains to be done in respect of the electrical installation for the operation of the traffic through the tunnel. In the present state of a Hairs there are few who are inclined to venture fixing a date, or mentioning a period that will mark the passage of the first train between coast and coast
