WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. i An important new departure, inI ! tended to meet, temporarily, during the i financial stringency, the serious difficulty of overcrowding schools in certain large areas was outlined by the Minister for Education (Hon 0. J. Parr). He intends to ask for a Government grant of funds to enable Educa- I tion Board to erect, 20 portable schools | to he put up in districts where there is ' overcrowding. These will accommodate * , 1.50 to 200 children and the largest, will cost £ISOO. By this moans Mr Parr | hopes to secure the same aeommodation for £8720, if provided, as brick schools which would cost £52,299. When the financial position improves the temporary buildings can bo taken down and permanent structures erected. WOOLEN WORKERS Wellington. August 20. 1 Application was made to the Arbitration Court by the Otago Woollen mill* employees for a Dominion award for employees in the industry. The employers cited in the first instanc' 1 were the Otago millets but the Court agreed to hoar evidence and treat the case as for a Dominion award. Mr A. S.
